Australia's Westfield acquired the shopping hub in 1994. The complex was rebranded, as WESTFIELD SHOPPINGTOWN PLAZA CAMINO REAL, in late 1998. By this time, Macy's has established individual "Women's" and "Men's" stores and the May Company has been rebannered as a Robinsons-May.
In June 2005, the "shoppingtown" reference was dropped, with the mall known, henceforth, as WESTFIELD PLAZA CAMINO REAL. In January 2015, the WESTFIELD CARLSBAD moniker was instituted. Less than a year later (in November 2015), THE SHOPPES AT CARLSBAD name and logo made its debut.
