During its first four years, GREEN ACRES CENTER operated with a single anchor (Gimbels Valley Stream). By 1964, a second department store (Big Apple-based Lanes) had been added. Its dedication was followed by one for a freestanding movie house, the Century's Green Acres Theatre. It was built in the mall's northwest parking area.

In April 1970, a fully-enclosed GREEN ACRES CENTER emerged. This advert appeared in local newspapers, promoting the new "weather-controlled mall."

In 1982 and '83, a North Wing (in light gray) was added to the complex, now officially promoted as GREEN ACRES MALL. In this circa-1986 plan, Stern's has moved into the east anchor space, with Gimbels' store converted to an A & S (Abraham & Straus).
