A joint venture of two Salt Lake City-based realty companies took charge of the repurposing of the COTTONWOOD MALL site in 2017. Their initial proposal for a high-density residential, retail and office development was met with some degree of community opposition.

The plan was amended. The Holladay City Council gave their stamp of approval -for a newly-named HOLLADAY HILLS project- in May 2018. In June, the demolition of two remaining mall structures (a vacant Macy's and TGI Friday restaurant) got underway.
