The mall was supposed to have been replaced by COTTONWOOD, an Old World-motif mixed-use community. However, The Great Recession got in the way.

A plan of the prospective COTTONWOOD. The only structure remaining from the mall would be Macy's. The shuttering of of that store, in early 2017, caused the Hughes Corporation to abandon the long-delayed redevelopment.
