The first major expansion of COTTONWOOD MALL enlarged the South Wing with new inline store space and a full-line J.C. Penney. Above, we see a newspaper advert from April 1969, which announces the grand opening of said Penneys.

During the 1968-'69 expansion, some of the mall's inline stores relocated into the South Wing. This left empty space in the original structure; some of which was filled by an expansion of Zinik's Sporting Goods. The grand opening of their newly-enlarged (20,000 square foot) store was commemorated in this advertisement from September 1969.
