The first stores in ORLANDO FASHION SQUARE were dedicated in July 1973. The "completed new mall" was commemorated -in a Grand Opening II- in October 1973. At this time, the high-fashion hub encompassed around 843,000 leasable square feet and housed 103 stores and services.

Burdines anchored the southeast corner of the complex. The store, which was the tenth branch in the Miami-based chain, opened in July 1973.

The north anchor of ORLANDO FASHION SQUARE was the second location in the Robinson's of Florida chain, which was based in St. Petersburg. The first store had opened, in August 1973, at St. Pete's TYRONE SQUARE. The FASHION SQUARE store welcomed its first shoppers in October of the same year.
