San Diego-based Walker Scott opened a MISSION VALLEY store in 1973. It was a smaller, boutique-type operation, which was more of an inline store than mall anchor.

In the early 1970s, Camino de la Reina (running along the north side of the mall) was rerouted, enlarging the rear parking area. This allowed for the first expansion of the mall (in dark gray), which included an LA-based Bullock's and eleven inline stores. This North Wing addition was completed in 1975.
