A circa-1988 plan shows a substantially renovated CHULA VISTA CENTER. Fifth Avenue, that used to divide the mall site, has been partially paved over. The mall has been expanded  (in gray). A new East Wing, which features an upper level, connects with the existing Sears. With these and other improvements, the complex encompasses nearly 800,000 leasable square feet.

Between 1992 and 1994, CHULA VISTA CENTER was expanded again. This time around, a combination CinemaStar multiplex and Sav-On Drug was added, along with a fourth anchor (Mervyn's) and adjacent parking garage. With these modifications, the mall spanned approximately 923,000 leasable square feet. There were over 100 stores and free parking for 3,800 autos.
