By the early 1980s, GLEN BURNIE MALL was in need of refurbishment. A 3 million dollar face lift commenced in July 1981 and was complete by the following November. The interior of the complex was remodeled with new tile flooring, skylights and decorative lamp posts.

The post-renovation shopping center encompassed approximately 418,000 leasable square feet and contained forty-one stores and services. In 1983, Toys "R" Us, which had occupied the entire north anchor space in 1974, downsized into its eastern half. An Epsteins department store set up shop in the western half.
