Meanwhile, an open-air "Lifestyle Village" was dedicated in the summer of 2000. It brought several upper crust bistros, as well as Z Gallerie and Chico's retail stores.

A circa-2008 layout shows the most recent changes. The "Lifestyle Village" is shown in light gray. As part of some merchandising musical chairs, Macy's assumed the old Rich's space. An abandoned J.C. Penney fell to a wrecking ball and was replaced with a newly-built Dillard's. With these modifications, PERMIETER MALL spans approximately 1,564,000 leasable square feet.

Iowa's Von Maur chain repurposed the mall's Bloomingdale's, after that store was shuttered in early 2012. The new Von Maur was dedicated in November of the same year.

Today, PERIMETER MALL is the commercial core of Perimeter Center, one of the largest edge cities in the United States. The region, which spans three incorporated cities, features 29 million square feet of offices, 6 million square feet of retail and 40,000 residents.
