A vista view of the 250-foot-long pool area at the White Winrock Motor Hotel. This 172-room complex, which opened in June 1962, was attached to the west-facing facade of WINROCK CENTER. It was the first motel to operate as part of a shopping mall.

The first motion picture palace to operate at the mall site was the single-screen Fox Winrock Theatre. Built in the northern periphery of the mall, it opened in May 1963 and was converted to a Cinerama venue in March 1964.

WINROCK CENTER was built on land leased from the University of New Mexico. By the time of a circa-1963 physical layout, the mall encompassed approximately 565,000 leasable square feet and contained forty-five stores and services beneath its awnings. Parking was provided for 4,000 autos.

We're including a detail view of the '63 site plan. In its original state, WINROCK CENTER consisted of a main Mall Level, with larger stores having basements.
