Boulder's "Comfort-Conditioned" CROSSROADS opened -in March 1963- as the first fully-enclosed mall in the Centennial State. It covered 350,000 leasable square feet, housed 40 stores, and provided parking for 2,500 autos. At the time of a circa-1967 plan, the mall has just emerged from its first expansion. J.C. Penney, on the north end, has been nearly doubled in size, becoming a full-line, "New Generation" store.

One of the mall's charter tenants was The Randall Shop, an operative of the Denver Dry Goods Company (a.k.a. "The Denver"). This boutique-type store was replaced by a full-line "The Denver," which opened in March 1976.
