A major renovation of GREEN ACRES MALL commenced in June 2014 and was complete by May 2016. The first phase of the project entailed a face lift of the south facade. An existing H & M store was expanded and new Streetscape-style restaurants -Panera Bread, Chipotle Mexican Grill and PizzaRev- opened for business.

California's Macerich Company acquired GREEN ACRES MALL in October 2012. Known within the retail industry as "the mall doctor," their 80 million dollar resuscitation of the Valley Stream shopping hub included an indoor face lift. When all construction dust had settled, the facility still encompassed 1,215,300 leasable square feet, but now contained 114 store spaces.

As the 2010s redo was wrapping up, a 20-acre parcel in the northwestern periphery of the mall was redeveloped. A movie megaplex had operated there for several years. This theater was demolished and replaced by a 350,000 square foot strip center, known as GREEN ACRES COMMONS. Its first stores opened in October 2016.
