Australia's Westfield acquired the mall in late 1986, but waited until late 1998 to change its name to WESTFIELD SHOPPINGTOWN SOUTH SHORE. A 2-year-long renovation was completed at this time. This project (in light gray) added Sears, Lord & Taylor and approximately twenty-four inline stores. The complex now covered around 1,167,000 leasable square feet and contained 124 stores and services. Free parking was provided for 4,500 autos.
