Competition from newer -and larger- malls was impacting TRI-CITY by the early 1980s. Diamond's pulled up stakes in 1984. A major renovation was performed as an attempt to revitalize the property. The vacant Diamonds was reconfigured as a new West Wing. This included a Winston's junior department store, medical clinic, Eatery Food Court and 5-screen multiplex.
