The LARWIN PLAZA mall had been built in two stages in the early 1960s. The first, encompassing the three southeast store blocks, was dedicated in the fall of 1962. Sears, and the remainder of the shopping hub, were completed in the following year. Free parking was provided for over 4,000 autos.
