We take another stroll down shopping mall memory lane, courtesy of the Rock Springs Historical Museum and Sweetwater Cable TV. PLAZA CENTER was a strip-type complex with an enclosed concourse.

Opened in 1972, PLAZA CENTER was anchored by an Albertsons supermarket.

The junior anchors of the shopping hub were Thrifty Drug and a Sprouse-Reitz 5 & 10.

The Big Nickle book store was one of the inline stores along the enclosed mall.

In the here and now, the complex is promoted as PLAZA MALL. However, it is strictly a strip-type shopping complex, as the enclosed concourse was gutted and rebuilt as outward-facing stores. The center encompasses 167,900 leasable square feet and contains eighteen stores.

Two more regional-size malls were built in Wyoming after WHITE MOUNTAIN MALL was dedicated in 1978. FRONTIER MALL {in Cheyenne} opened for business in March 1981. Today, this complex encompasses 519,400 leasable square feet and contains sixty-seven store spaces.

This facility currently spans 569,900 leasable square feet and houses fifty-eight store spaces. It is the largest shopping mall in Wyoming.
