J.C. Penney pulled out of the mall in April 2016. The store was divided into two spaces, with the largest leased as a T.J. Maxx. This store welcomed first shoppers in October 2016.

With the shuttering of J. C. Penney, just one of the original anchor stores at WHITE MOUNTAIN MALL remained. Alas, the 91-year-old Herberger's chain crashed and burned -along with its Bon Ton Stores parent company- in 2018. The WHITE MOUNTAIN MALL store went dark in August.

The demise of Herberger's left the mall with 60,000 vacant square feet. Other empty stores had been filled by Ross Dress For Less, Rue 21, Shoe Department Encore and Hibbett Sports. In October 2021, Dunham's Sports opened in the old Herberger's. All anchors were now leased. For the record, the mall proper still covered approximately 333,600 leasable square feet.
