Three major shopping malls had been built in Greater Las Vegas by 1981. CHARLESTON PLAZA was commercially upstaged and didn't even last till the end of the decade. The past-its-prime property was knocked down in 1988, leaving only its Woolco structure standing. This was worked into a new CHARLESTON PLAZA power center.

The CHARLESTON PLAZA retail reboot included a supermarket. It opened, as a Lucky Store, in 1988 and was rebranded by the Albertsons chain in November 1999.
