The bulk of Woolco stores were freestanding or built as part of strip-type shopping centers. There were also several locations that were developed as shopping mall anchors. The first of these, the sixth unit opened by the chain, anchored the northern end of Greater Richmond, Virginia's AZALEA MALL. The store opened its doors in November 1962.
