Houston's Levcor acquired the mall in 2007. They proposed a face lift-type renovation. It would take several years for a redevelopment to get underway. In the meantime, a couple of names were floated around. In a 2008 prospectus, the refurbished mall was to be known as SHOPS AT EL CENTRO (seen above). Eventually, Levcor decided to raze the facility and build an open-air power plaza.
