Britts was an offshoot of the J.J. Newberry 5 & 10 chain. Stores in the Britts division were larger and more upscale than their Newberrys dime store counterparts.

The interior of the CRSP Britts is seen above. Eventually, other Sunshine State stores were opened. These were joined by Britts units in Alabama, Arizona, Tennessee, Texas, New York, New Hampshire, Maryland, Vermont, Washington State and California.

The CORAL RIDGE SHOPPING PLAZA was anchored by the aforementioned Britts on the south and J.C. Penney on the north, with a freestanding Publix filling out the merchandising mix. As it stood in 1962, the mall spanned approximately 437,000 leasable square feet and contained thirty-two stores. The parking lot had spaces for 2,500 autos.
