CORAL RIDGE SHOPPING PLAZA accompanied a large residential development in the northern environs of Fort Lauderdale. It was the first of twelve interior malls that would open in Broward County between 1962 and 1992.

J.C. Penney anchored the north end of the mall. The store, comprised of 2 levels, covered 100,000 square feet. Mr. James Cash Penney was present at the store's October 1962 grand opening.
