As a result of the 1961 merger of San Diego's Marston's chain with Los Angeles-based The Broadway, this store was rebannered, as seen in this rendering, in 1964. The Marston's at La Mesa's GROSSMONT CENTER was Broadway-branded, as well.

The CHULA VISTA mall was expanded eastward in the mid-1960s. An adjacent land parcel was developed with a new Sears. This store opened its doors in February 1966, completing the basic footprint of the complex. It now spanned approximately 683,000 leasable square feet.

We now zoom forward 16 years. The San Diego Trolley's first operational segment was inaugurated in July 1981. This Centre City-to-San Ysidro South Line included a station stop 4 blocks west of CHULA VISTA CENTER.
