As a result of the 1961 merger of San Diego's Marston's chain with Los Angeles-based The Broadway, this store was rebannered, as seen in this rendering, in 1964. The Marston's at La Mesa's GROSSMONT CENTER was Broadway-branded, as well.

The CHULA VISTA mall in 1966. By this time, the eastern part of the site had been developed with a new Sears. It opened its doors in February 1966, completing the basic footprint of the original shopping hub.

The CHULA VISTA CENTER site is located four blocks east of the San Diego Trolley's H Street station. It opened July 26, 1981, as part of the Centre City-to-San Ysidro South Line. This was the first operational segment of today's 53.1 route mile -fifty-three station- Trolley network
