In 1978, the city block directly south of SALEM PLAZA was cleared to make way for a second inner city shopping hub.

Within weeks, demolition was complete. Only a savings & loan office at the southeast corner of the block had been left standing.

By late 1979, work on NORDSTROM MALL was nearing completion. An eventual Casual Corner store has received its nameplate.
