Washington State's Costco, a membership-only operation, debuted in September 1983, in Kirkland, Washington. The company merged with San Diego's Price Club in 1993, with all Price Club stores coming under the Costco banner in 1997.

Costco's Henderson, Nevada store. In order to make purchases, customers must first pay an annual membership fee. The typical Costco store averages 142,000 square feet and carries a variety of merchandise, including fresh produce, meat, dairy, seafood, baked goods, clothing, books, electronics, small home appliances, automotive items and furniture.
