Seafood City originated with a store in National City, California in 1989. Today, the chain is based in Pomona, California. Its stores carry a wide array of Filipino and Asian foods. In mid-2023, there were twenty-eight Seafood City stores in California, Hawaii, Illinois, Nevada and Washington State. Five Canadian stores operated in Alberta, Ontario and Manitoba.

The rambling WESTFIELD SOUTHCENTER mall in Tukwila, Washington houses a mall-based Seafood City operation. It occupies the 44,000 square foot ground floor of a former Mervyn's. The Westfield SouthCenter Seafood City held its grand opening in July 2010.
