As American malls abandoned supermarket tenantry in the 1970s, what few "out-of-town" centres that were built in Great Britain continued to feature grocery stores. Waitrose, based in Berkshire ["Bark-sheer"] County, UK, anchored London's BRENT CROSS CENTRE. The mall -and supermarket- first traded to the public in 1976. The store is in operation to this very day.
