The first two operational MOUNDS MALL stores were the aforementioned Wards and H.P. Wasson. These were dedicated in November 1964. A mall-wide grand opening was held in May 1965, with twenty-three stores in business. J.C. Penney (in dark gray) joined the fold in January 1969. By 1974, the shopping hub contained thirty-two stores. There were also five outparcel businesses, including two cinemas.
