Richmond's Azalea Mall

Virginia's second fully-enclosed shopping hub was built in the northwestern environs of the Capital City. Stores in AZALEA MALL began opening in November 1962, with an official dedication held in May 1963. The prevailing slogan was "Winter, summer, spring or fall...it's always spring in Azalea Mall."

Before there was AZALEA MALL, there was WILLOW LAWN CENTER; the
first major post-war shopping plaza in Greater Richmond. The 280,000
square foot strip complex opened in November 1956.

AZALEA was the nation's very first Woolco-anchored mall. The complex featured the F.W. Woolworth Company's sixth Woolco discount mart.
