This "Fun Coast" shopping center was one of three Florida malls opened by the Edward J. DeBartolo Corporation during 1974. In order of their official dedications, these were ALTAMONTE MALL {north of Orlando} (August 1), UNIVERSITY SQUARE {Tampa} (August 15) and VOLUSIA MALL (October 15). In its original state, VOLUSIA spanned 820,000 leasable square feet and housed over eighty stores.
