At the time of a 1978 plan, one of the original anchor stores has just been rebranded. Liberty House now sports a Frederick & Nelson nameplate. A 4-screen multiplex has also opened in the southern periphery of the mall. At 1,093,500 square feet, WASHINGTON SQUARE is the largest enclosed retail complex in the state; a distinction it would hold until an early 1990s renovation of LLOYD CENTER.
Here, we see the mall's second Frederick & Nelson location. The store had opened, in November 1973, as a PDX-based Lipmans. It was rebranded as a Seattle-based "F & N" in April 1979.
