The Wolverine State's first fully-enclosed mall was built in the Grand Rapids suburb of Wyoming and dedicated in 1961. Housing approximately 334,100 leasable square feet, it was anchored by Montgomery Ward. Plans for a second anchor, which would have been a Chicago-based Goldblatt's, never came to fruition.
Here we see the mall's air-conditioned shopping concourse. Maling Shoes is on the right. On the left are a Winkelman's dress shop and S.S. Kresge 5 & dime.
