By the early 21st century, both ZCMI CENTER and CROSSROADS PLAZA had deteriorated into virtually vacant properties. Demolition commenced in November 2006 and continued into the following year. A New Urbanism-style replacement, known as CITY CREEK CENTER, debuted in March 2012.

The Salt Lake City Marriott Downtown hotel was completed in 1981, as part of the CROSSROADS PLAZA development. It was spared from demolition and given a renovation in 2008, which was accompanied by a new name; Marriott Downtown At City Creek.

A new Nordstrom was built as part of CITY CREEK CENTER. The 124,000 square foot store held its grand opening in March 2012.
