First seen in the opening credits of "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," in September 1970, the Downtown Dayton's hat toss became one of the most iconic TV scenes of the 20th century. It was immortalized, by the erection of this statue at Nicollet Mall and South 7th Street, in 2002.

The center city's third urban-style mall was officially dedicated on October 12, 1987. THE CONSERVATORY comprised 5 levels and housed ninety tenant spaces. The major stores in this uber upscale shopping venue were Harold, Mark Shale and FAO Schwarz. THE CONSERVATORY was something of a spectacular failure, which led to the building being imploded in March 1998.
