As stated, a Food Court opened in the
North Wing in 2007. This had been one of the only physical changes to the mall's basic footprint. Although a large-scale redevelopment was proposed in 2008, nothing came about. Sears would anchor the south end of the complex for nearly 46 years. The store went dark in July 2018.
The mall was struggling by the early 2020s, with thirty-one vacant stores out of a total of ninety-three. A second large-scale redevelopment was formulated in 2019 and approved by the local government in 2021. Under the Sunrise Tomorrow plan, the mall would be reconfigured as an open-air "21st Century Main Street." This could include residential, office, hotel and retail components, along with restaurants and entertainment venues.
