During Rouse's 1982 indoor face lift, The Honeycomb (a mall-within-a-mall) was removed. New escalators, flooring and landscaping were put in place.

An East Wing (in medium gray) was completed in late 1993. Housing forty-one stores, it was anchored by J.C. Penney (who relocated from SHOPPERS TOWN, in the Westerleigh section of the borough). The existing shopping concourse has also been refurbished. With these improvements, STATEN ISLAND MALL covered 1,150,000 leasable square feet and contained 185 store spaces.
