ST. CLAIR SQUARE, Greater St. Louis' first dual-level, fully-enclosed shopping center, was dedicated in October 1974. At the time of this circa-1975 plan, the complex encompassed approximately 562,000 leasable square feet and contained fifty-four stores and services. Free parking was provided 5,000 autos.

By 1980, the 60 million dollar SQUARE has grown into a one million square foot -130-store- buying behemoth. J.C. Penney was added in January 1976, followed by Stix, Baer & Fuller, and a new East Wing, in April 1979. A westward enlargement of Famous-Barr (in dark gray) has also expanded that store by over 60,000 square feet.

The Square Meal Food Court at ST. CLAIR SQUARE was installed in existing Upper Level space in 1993.
