By the dawn of the 21st century, NORTHWEST PLAZA was in a downward spiral. J.C. Penney became the first major store to bolt from the mall in 2002, followed by Dillard's, who departed in 2009. The Famous-Barr seen here was "Macy-ated" in early 2006. That store went dark in March 2010.

Sears was given a 7 million dollar rehab in 1997. It would be the final operational anchor at NORTHWEST PLAZA, with its shuttering taking place in July 2010.
