Archie The Snowman made his first appearance at CHAPEL HILL MALL in late 1968. Becoming something of a holiday tradition, the talking -20-foot-high- character was retired in 2003. Brought back by popular demand, Archie returned to the mall's Center Court in November 2014.

A circa-2011 plan shows all three anchor stores in operation, but this situation would not hold for long. An inline store exodus ensued. Then, Macy's and Sears closed in 2016 and 2017, respectively. J.C. Penney was left as the only functioning anchor. This store went dark in 2020. A new owner took charge in 2021 and shuttered the mall in April. Their plan is to repurpose the abandoned mall as an office facility.
