A 240,000 square foot Penneys, the fourth original SOUTHCENTER anchor, was one of the chain's largest stores. In fact, it still is. In the present-day, the SOUTHCENTER J.C. Penney is the chain's fourth-largest location.

A circa-'70 SOUTHCENTER site plan. The mall had been dedicated in July of 1968. It encompassed around 1,339,200 leasable square feet and was the Evergreen State's largest enclosed shopping center. When fully-leased, it housed 110 stores and services. There were for-free parking provisions for 7,000 autos.
