The freestanding Lakehurst Cinema tri-plex opened for business in February 1974. It was expanded in 1984 and 1987 and demolished in the summer of 2007.

Meanwhile, LAKEHURST MALL had been shuttered in January 2001, with Carson's remaining in business until January 2004. The shopping center was demolished between November 2003 and May 2004. The first structure new built, a Wal-Mart SuperCenter, opened in April 2006.

Wal-Mart was joined by two banks, four casual dining restaurants, a filling station and hotel; all of these being freestanding structures. The site has also been redeveloped with two small strip plazas. In the image above, we see FOUNTAIN SQUARE OF WAUKEGAN, which opened in 2008.
