BAY FAIR CENTER was developed in three phases. The first, completed in August 1957, built a Macy's anchor store. Phase two, dedicated in November 1957, added a 2-level South Wing (in black). The grand opening of Phase three (dark gray) was held in November 1959, with store dedications continuing into 1960. At this time, BAY FAIR CENTER covered approximately 691,000 leasable square feet, with free parking provided for 3,500 autos.
