WESTLAND CENTER completed its first expansion in late 1976. A new West Wing (in dark gray) was anchored by J.C. Penney. A Southeast Wing enlargement (in light gray) was dedicated in 1986. It included a new MainStreet store. With these modification, the mall encompassed approximately 908,000 leasable square feet.

A circa-2008 layout shows several mall renovations and store rebrandings. Kohl's absorbed the MainStreet chain in 1989 and expanded the WESTLAND store soon after taking it over. Sears was added in 1997. Hudson's had a 5-year stint as a Marshall Field's before being "Macy-ated" in 2006. With all additions figured in, the complex encompassed around 1,051,600 leasable square feet and contained over sixty stores and services.
