WESTLAND CENTER completed its first expansion in late 1976. A new West Wing (in dark gray) was anchored by J.C. Penney. A Southeast Wing enlargement (light gray) was dedicated in 1986. It included a new MainStreet store. With these modification, the mall encompassed approximately 908,000 leasable square feet.

A circa-2008 plan shows mall renovations and store rebrandings. Kohl's absorbed the MainStreet chain in 1989 and expanded the WESTLAND store. Sears was added in 1997. Hudson's had a 5-year stint as a Marshall Field's before being "Macy-ated" in 2006. With these improvements, the complex encompassed around 1,051,600 leasable square feet and contained over sixty stores and services.
