DIMOND CENTER is the heart of a large concentration of retail facilities on Anchorage's south side. A plaza, east of the mall, was known as the KMART CENTER for years (Kmart closed in 2003). Today, the largest tenant is Sam's Club. North of DIMOND CENTER is DIMOND CROSSING, which houses Bed, Bath & Beyond and PetSmart. A WalMart Supercenter is also in the vicinity.

DIMOND CENTER achieved its 40th business year in 2017. A contemporary plan shows how area once occupied by Gottschalks has been subdivided. Forever 21 and Ulta Beauty now take up most of the space. A small expansion, built on the northwest corner of the complex, adds Olive Garden and Chili's Grill & Bar restaurants. The mall now houses sixty-four stores and services, with twenty-four leased office spaces.
