BELKNAP MALL was one of several small town New England mini-malls anchored by a Zayre discount mart. At the time of this 1973 plan, the center encompassed a modest 94,000 leasable square feet.

A new Zayre, completed in 1988, was in business for only a few months. It became an Ames discount store in 1989. With its new northern addition, BELKNAP MALL encompassed approximately 182,500 leasable square feet and contained twenty-one stores and services. There was free parking for 949 autos.

Stores along the mall's exterior were reconfigured with parking lot entrances during a 2003 renovation.
