The PIERRE property was one in a series of enclosed mini malls built by a Houston developer in the 1970s and '80s. In its original incarnation, the complex housed around 168,300 leasable square feet. Like several of its sibling shopping centers, it was anchored by compact J.C. Penney and Kmart stores.

Spurgeon's, which operated stores in seven midwestern states, dedicated a PIERRE MALL unit in 1982. The chain sold apparel, domestics and candy, with some stores having a hair styling department. Spurgeon's began its descent in 1991, when a chapter 11 bankruptcy was filed and stores were shuttered. The PIERRE MALL location went dark in 1992. The entire chain shut down in July 1993.
