Now we enter the realm of the retail shopping mall and its many cinematic variants. Although there has been mention of several shopping complexes around the country having been "America's First Shopping Mall" (quote-unquote), this distinction should rightfully be given to Seattle's NORTHGATE CENTER, which was dedicated in April 1950.

A year and a half after its grand opening, NORTHGATE CENTER dedicated a mall-connected motion picture theater, which is now viewed as the nation's very first Shopping Mall Cinema. In the following month, Greater Boston's SHOPPERS' WORLD followed suit with its own mall-centric movie house.
