As it turns out, many mid-20th century shopping malls were not built in a single phase of construction. In the case of CHARLESTON PLAZA, there were at least three. The complex started out (in 1961) with the aforementioned strip plaza (indicated here in black). Around 1963, an enclosed mallway and strip of stores (shown in medium gray) were added. The shopping hub was completed in 1965, with a new Woolco, additional inline stores (shown in lighter gray) and Fox Theatre.
