As it turns out, many mid-century malls were not built in a single phase. In the case of CHARLESTON PLAZA, there were at least three. The complex started out, in 1961, with the aforementioned strip plaza (in black). Around 1963, an enclosed mallway and strip of stores (in medium gray) were added. The complex was completed in 1965, with a new Woolco, additional inline stores (in lighter gray) and Fox Theatre.
