The shopping concourse was enclosed with a Teflon-coated tent in 1983. Additional store space (dark gray) was also built at the southwest corner. By this time, the complex is officially known as BUENAVENTURA PLAZA. There are approximately 619,800 leasable square feet in the South Mall. The North Mall covers an additional 91,900 square feet. The total store count stands at seventy-one (with five outparcels).

A new owner (the Macerich Company) came on the scene in 1987. They changed the name of the complex -to BUENAVENTURA MALL- in August 1990. The shopping hub, which had just been renovated in 1983, was given another remodeling, which got underway in February 1989. During this project, a partial upper level was built.
